HARRISBURG, Pa. — This summer, Pennsylvanians can cool off and support local agriculture by participating in the 2025 Scooped: An Ice Cream Trail, a statewide initiative connecting families with delicious, farm-fresh ice cream while helping to sustain the state’s dairy industry.
Launched in 2018, the Ice Cream Trail has become a beloved summer tradition. Now in its eighth year, it features 51 creameries across the Commonwealth, offering visitors a fun and flavorful way to explore Pennsylvania from May 29 through September 7.
“Pennsylvania’s dairy farms are an integral part of the fabric that makes up our rich agricultural and culinary history,” said Rick Siger, Secretary of the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED). “The Ice Cream Trail is a delicious way for visitors to support local businesses while spending time with friends and family.”
Participants can register online and earn points by checking in at each creamery along the trail. Accumulating 600 points earns a commemorative tumbler, while 1,000 points unlocks a chance to win an overnight farm getaway in Lancaster County for a taste of rural life.
The initiative kicked off at Destiny Dairy Bar at Stover Farms in Cumberland County, where Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding and Secretary Siger visited to highlight the connection between tourism, agriculture, and community. Destiny Dairy Bar features not only homemade ice cream but also a petting zoo and interactive farm experiences.
“Pennsylvania ice cream is the sweetest you’ll find anywhere,” said Secretary Redding. “Meeting a farm family, seeing where they work their magic, and trying fresh-made local ice cream makes summer even sweeter when you know your purchases help support Pennsylvania farms and keep our economy thriving.”
With Pennsylvania ranking eighth nationally in milk production and home to 4,940 dairy farms and 468,000 cows producing 10 billion pounds of milk annually, the trail showcases the heart of the state’s dairy economy.
Organized through a partnership between the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, DCED, and the Center for Dairy Excellence, the Ice Cream Trail continues to celebrate latest ice cream franchise trends by combining community engagement, agritourism, and fresh local flavor. It also reflects a growing opportunity in ice cream franchise opportunities that blend experience-based business models with seasonal demand.
