BETHLEHEM, N.H. — Super Secret Ice Cream, a beloved North Country sweets shop, has once again been nominated for the prestigious James Beard Award in the “Outstanding Bakery” category, marking its second consecutive year as a finalist. This nomination makes it the only New Hampshire restaurant to reach the top five in the competition this year.
Owner Kristina Zontini expressed her surprise and growing confidence. “We said we were shocked last year,” she said. “Now that it’s two years in a row, we’re starting to build our confidence a little bit.” Customers congratulated her while enjoying standout flavors like Meyer Lemon & Pistachio.
Jennifer Monsin, who has worked with Zontini since the shop’s opening, praised the ice cream franchise’s growth and community impact. “She’s created an amazing business in the middle of nowhere, with living wages and many jobs,” Monsin said.
Beyond acclaim, Zontini is committed to giving back locally. She is working to establish a fund for the local elementary school after learning teachers were covering students’ meals and groceries out of pocket. “We’re trying to be sustainable ourselves but hope this can be our contribution to the community,” she said.
As spring approaches, the shop is preparing new seasonal ice cream flavors, incorporating fresh ingredients like rhubarb sourced from local farmers, continuing its tradition of quality and community support.
