SANTA ROSA, Calif. — Just in time for summer, Portland-based ice cream shop Salt & Straw is making its highly anticipated Santa Rosa debut at Montgomery Village on June 20. Known for its wildly inventive flavors and commitment to craftsmanship, Salt & Straw is redefining what a scoop of ice cream can be.
The grand opening kicks off at 11 a.m., with Avid Coffee serving cold brew samples in the morning and local musician Brie Page performing live from 6 to 9 p.m. The new location adds to a growing list of exciting food and beverage destinations at Montgomery Village, joining recent additions like Mendocino Farms, with more—including Fieldwork Brewing, Sprinkles Cupcakes, and Blue Bottle Coffee—still to come.
Salt & Straw has built a cult following for flavors that challenge convention. Staples like Sea Salt Caramel Ribbons, Honey Lavender, and Arbequina Olive Oil sit beside seasonally rotating specials. For June, expect bold options like wild-foraged berry pie, wildflower honey and lemon chess pie, and a savory surprise: Gruyère and tomato custard tart.
While classics like vanilla and chocolate are available, Salt & Straw encourages customers to explore the unexpected. “Why be boring?” the brand suggests, and their menu lives up to that ethos.
In a previous collaboration, Salt & Straw partnered with Russian River Brewing to produce a beer-infused ice cream featuring Supplication Ale, swirls of sour cherry marmalade, and even Manchego cheese. “It’s a bizarre mixture but totally works,” said Russian River co-owner Natalie Cilurzo.
With its daring flavors and community-focused approach, Salt & Straw stands out in the competitive ice cream franchise market, offering a premium experience that appeals to adventurous palates and families alike.
