Escanaba Library Friends Host Book Sale & Ice Cream Social

by Alice

ESCANABA, Mich. — The Friends of the Escanaba Public Library are kicking off summer with a community event featuring a used book sale, family activities, and an ice cream social.

On Wednesday afternoon, visitors can browse a wide selection of used books for sale in the city hall foyer. This annual fundraiser supports the Escanaba Public Library by supplementing its budget to keep books and programs available to the community.

“Local book lovers formed this nonprofit in 1988 to help cover library expenses beyond their normal budget,” said Kelly Pepin, President of the Friends of the Escanaba Public Library.

Funds raised from the book sale directly support library programs, including summer activities for children such as clay sculpture workshops and the annual summer reading contest, themed this year as Color Our World.

“The children are our future,” Pepin said. “It’s important to nurture their love of reading, learning, and adventure.”

After browsing the book sale and registering for summer programs inside the library, attendees can head to the North Lawn at 6 p.m. for a free ice cream social. The event will feature cupcakes, ice cream, and live music by the Escanaba City Band.

“What better way to spend an evening than relaxing on a blanket, enjoying treats, and connecting with fellow community members?” Pepin remarked.

Everyone is welcome to attend the free event. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and prepare for a fun, family-friendly afternoon.
