IRVINE, CA — Wienerschnitzel, the iconic California-based hot dog franchise, is set to open new restaurant locations inside Walmart stores in six states, including California. The first Walmart-based Wienerschnitzel will launch this fall in Bakersfield, with additional locations planned in Washington, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and Colorado.
These Walmart eateries will be locally owned and operated by franchisees, tapping into the high foot traffic of Walmart stores. “These non-traditional formats allow us to modernize our footprint, bring our iconic flavors to new audiences, and reinforce the brand’s relevance in today’s evolving retail and dining landscape,” said Ted Milburn, Director of Franchise Development.
This strategic expansion aligns with Wienerschnitzel’s broader focus on non-traditional franchise opportunities, including venues such as airports, military bases, theme parks, and food courts. The move enables franchisees to capitalize on built-in demand in high-traffic retail spaces.
Shak Turner, Director of Franchise Expansion, added, “Wienerschnitzel has spent decades building a strong reputation, especially on the West Coast, and this expansion into Walmart stores signifies a new era of growth for the brand.”
Customers at these Walmart locations can expect the full Wienerschnitzel menu, featuring favorites like the chili cheese dog, jalapeño poppers, and Tastee Freez soft-serve desserts.
Founded in Wilmington, California, in 1961, Wienerschnitzel now boasts over 340 franchised locations across 13 states, with more than 50 units currently in development nationwide.
