KINGS BEACH, CA — A North Lake Tahoe ice cream shop had an unexpected furry customer in April when a bear, nicknamed Cinnamon, sneaked inside and helped itself to a three-gallon tub of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream.
Beth Moxley, owner of Tahoe Time Ice Cream in Kings Beach, captured video of the aftermath on her phone. The incident happened during a slow, snowy day while she was deep cleaning and briefly stepped away from the store.
Moxley noted an increase in bear sightings in the area, especially smaller, bolder bears that seem less afraid of humans. “It’s like teenagers running wild,” she said, explaining that hunger is pushing them closer to people despite the risks.
Local wildlife advocates from the Bear League of Tahoe warn residents and visitors to secure food and trash, keep doors and windows locked, and use loud noises to deter bears, especially with the busy summer season approaching.
