April 2025 — A new frozen dessert has captured the attention of Costco shoppers across the U.S., especially fans of Japanese snacks. The latest addition to the wholesale giant’s growing lineup of Asian food offerings is a colorful and candy-inspired treat: Hi-Chew dessert pops.
Spotted in select Costco locations beginning in April, these pops are the latest creation from Morinaga, the Japanese confectionery company behind the beloved Hi-Chew candy brand. Known for its chewy, fruit-flavored candies, Hi-Chew is now venturing into frozen desserts — and early reviews suggest it’s a hit.
Available in strawberry and grape flavors, the Hi-Chew pops mimic the candy’s signature look, featuring a vibrant, fruit-flavored outer shell and a soft, creamy center. While technically not ice cream, the inner “silky confectionary filling” has been compared to a chewy frozen yogurt or even a slushy in texture.
Each box contains six pops — three of each flavor — and Costco shoppers have reported a deal of two boxes for $15. The product was first spotted in California Costco locations, including the Vallejo store, where it quickly sold out. The pops are generating significant buzz on TikTok and other social media platforms, where fans describe them as “refreshing,” “very sweet,” and remarkably true to the original Hi-Chew candy flavors.
So far, Hi-Chew dessert pops have not been confirmed as a Costco exclusive. While they’ve also surfaced in some New Zealand supermarkets, there’s no official word yet on a wider U.S. rollout. That uncertainty is only adding to the hype, as eager customers rush to snag a box before they disappear.
This latest offering follows a trend at Costco, which has increasingly become a destination for lesser-known Asian snacks. Recent additions have included hard-boiled quail eggs and Bibigo tteokbokki, a Korean street food staple.
For fans of Hi-Chew or anyone curious about internationally inspired frozen treats, the new dessert pops may be worth seeking out on your next Costco run — if you can find them.
