Worcester, MA — Sub Zero Nitrogen Ice Cream, a popular Worcester shop known for its unique use of liquid nitrogen to instantly freeze ice cream, is set to reopen with new ownership.
The shop, located at 44 Front St., has been taken over by Jammie Geddis of Worcester and Turana Ismayilova of Boston, who are now the proud owners after purchasing the business from Rita McCabe. McCabe, who also owns another Sub Zero Nitrogen Ice Cream franchise in Nashua, New Hampshire, decided to sell the Worcester location due to the challenges of managing the store while commuting an hour each way.
McCabe expressed confidence in Geddis and Ismayilova, noting that local ownership would be key to the store’s success. “In order for that location to thrive, it really needs someone local,” McCabe said. “So I am thrilled to death that someone will take it over and make it the success that it can.”
Geddis and Ismayilova have been working closely with McCabe to learn the process of using liquid nitrogen to instantly freeze the ice cream, flavors, and toppings in front of customers, creating a one-of-a-kind experience.
Geddis emphasized the excitement of the unique process, saying, “No other ice cream shops are going to have a show.” He added, “It does taste really good.”
Ismayilova expressed her enthusiasm for managing the shop and continuing to offer its popular ice cream and smoothies. She and Geddis also plan to introduce new items, especially during colder months, such as coffee and homemade desserts like baklava.
“We want to bring a fresh air to the place,” Ismayilova said. The new owners also have plans to revamp the store’s interior, including replacing small square tables with larger, circular ones, and possibly adding high chairs, pending approval.
The duo hopes to reopen the store within two weeks.
Geddis and Ismayilova have known each other for three years, both working for Keller Williams Realty. Geddis first discovered Sub Zero Nitrogen Ice Cream when he visited the shop with his son, and when he learned the business was for sale, he reached out to Ismayilova to explore the opportunity.
“It’s a good opportunity,” Geddis said. “I’m a real estate guy, so it’s about time, space, and opportunity.”
Although neither had a background in the food industry, Ismayilova was eager to join Geddis in running the shop. “I’m always happy to work with Jammie,” she said.
Sub Zero Nitrogen Ice Cream is located at 44 Front St. in Worcester and will soon be reopening under its new management.
