MORGANTOWN — The Morgantown Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) has given the green light to two new dining ventures: an upscale craft cocktail eatery downtown and a European-style ice cream shop near Jack Roberts Park.
Upscale Restaurant and Craft Cocktail Bar Coming to 341 High St.
Owners of Von Blaze, the popular eatery at 1 Wall St., received a “restaurant, private club” designation for the former UniversiTEES location at 341 High St., right in front of Von Blaze’s current spot. This approval is a necessary step before applying for a liquor license.
Chef Chris McDonald shared plans to open a fine dining restaurant with small plates and shareable dishes, aiming to offer a more adult, elevated experience compared to Von Blaze’s upscale casual vibe. “Von Blaze has worked very well for us, so we have a jump start,” McDonald said, noting the new spot will maintain high quality but with a classier menu.
Eisgarten Morgantown Ice Cream Shop to Open by Jack Roberts Park
Entrepreneur Adelheid Schaupp received approval to open Eisgarten Morgantown, a fast-food ice cream shop in a 500-square-foot renovated building at Leonard Street and West Virginia Avenue, directly across from Jack Roberts Park.
The shop will feature primarily outdoor seating in a European-style setup, encouraging visitors to enjoy ice cream in the nearby greenspace. Schaupp said the business will operate seasonally and expects most customers to arrive on foot from the park and neighborhood.
The BZA granted relief from off-street parking requirements, with the condition that Schaupp apply for an adjacent on-street ADA-accessible parking space.
