BOISE, ID — Gelato lovers in Boise have a fresh reason to celebrate as Black Market Gelato and Sorbet unveils its new gelateria, housed alongside its production facility on Fry Street in Southwest Boise. The grand opening is scheduled for May 29th at 4 p.m., marking a new chapter for the company known for its handcrafted frozen treats distributed nationwide.
Owner Spin Mlynarik, originally from Austria, along with production manager Daniele Chiandussi, who grew up in Italy, aim to recreate the authentic “old-school” European gelateria atmosphere, offering Boise residents a taste of true artisanal gelato. “There are places in Europe where tourists are funneled to industrialized spots, but locals know where to find the freshest, handcrafted gelato,” Mlynarik explained. “That’s the experience we want to bring here—so fresh you can taste the difference.”
Unlike typical grab-and-go ice cream shops, Black Market Gelateria encourages patrons to linger and savor their gelato in traditional coppas—classic dishes and mugs used in Europe. For younger customers and the young at heart, whimsical ice cream creations shaped like clowns and snowmen are also featured on the menu.
The gelateria’s offerings are produced on-site in small, artisanal batches, distinct from the large-scale, hard-frozen gelato manufactured at the adjacent plant. This results in a soft, ready-to-eat product that emphasizes freshness and quality.
The menu includes seven staple gluten-free gelato flavors, rotating seasonal varieties, and dairy-free, vegan sorbets. Complementing the gelato are European-style pastries like Austrian krapfen filled with pastry cream or apricot jam, as well as Julius Meinl Coffee, a historic European brand dating back to 1862, and nourishing acai bowls. Looking ahead, the shop plans to introduce a lunch menu featuring a variety of sandwiches by fall.
Mlynarik’s vision balances European culinary excellence with American hospitality standards, including transparent pricing with tax included and a no-tipping policy. “Your biggest tip for us would be coming back with a friend,” he said.
Black Market Gelato’s new gelateria stands as a promising addition to Boise’s vibrant food scene, blending the rich heritage of European gelato craftsmanship with the latest ice cream franchise trends focused on authenticity and quality. As ice cream franchise opportunities continue to grow, Black Market sets a high bar for artisanal success.
The gelateria is located at 2545 S. Fry St., Boise, welcoming guests to experience a true taste of Europe right in their own backyard.
