LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — A new ice cream parlor with a heartwarming mission is opening its doors this Friday in Lee’s Summit. Howdy Homemade Ice Cream, located at 921 NE Woods Chapel Road, is more than just a place to enjoy sweet treats — it’s creating meaningful opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
A Purpose Beyond the Scoop
Brought to the Kansas City area by the nonprofit TNC Community, the shop aims to empower people with developmental disabilities by helping them gain job skills and pursue fulfilling employment.
“TNC Community is committed to helping people with disabilities prepare for and succeed in employment,” said CEO Kelly McGillis, “so they can pursue meaningful careers and develop transferrable job skills through the wildly successful Howdy Homemade Ice Cream franchise.”
Sweet Flavors, Sweeter Cause
Customers can look forward to a wide variety of creative and classic flavors, including:
Dr. Pepper Chocolate Chip
Cookie Nom’ster
Chocolate as All Get Out
Strawberry Milkshake
Birthday Cake
A Growing Movement
Howdy Homemade Ice Cream was founded in Texas in 2015 with the mission of employing people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Since then, it has expanded to seven locations across the U.S. — and now makes its Missouri debut in Lee’s Summit.
The new shop will be open to the public starting Friday, giving locals a chance to enjoy a delicious dessert while supporting an inspiring initiative.
