The 2025 Ice Cream of Balaton title has been awarded to Füge Ice Cream Parlor and Café in Veszprém, western Hungary, for their unique goat cheese-based creation named “Mekkóstollak”. The flavor, which features goat cheese with roasted and salted almonds, stood out among 31 ice cream creations submitted by 17 ice cream parlors and confectioners across the Lake Balaton region.
This competition, which took place on May 9 aboard a Balaton Shipping Company ferry, is becoming increasingly popular and highlights the region’s high-quality, artisanal ice creams. The winning ice cream is known for its innovative use of local ingredients, something that the jury, consisting of renowned pastry chefs and gastronomic experts, highly valued during the tasting.
The competition not only recognizes the skills of ice cream makers but also celebrates the gastronomic appeal of Lake Balaton. The winning creation is expected to become a popular treat throughout the summer season on the shores of the lake.
Special awards were also presented to Bagaméri Ice Cream Parlor in Balatonfüred, Pingvin Ice Cream Parlor in Balatonmáriafürdő, and Margaréta Ice Cream Parlor in Balatonszemes.
In addition, the recipe for Mekkóstollak will be made available to other local ice cream shops, helping to further promote high-quality, traditional ice cream in the area.
