WILLIAMSTOWN — Authorities are investigating a suspicious fire that broke out early Tuesday morning at a Williamstown ice cream shop, the latest in a concerning series of similar incidents in the area.
Emergency services were called to Nelson Place shortly after 2 a.m. on April 29 following reports of smoke billowing from the shop. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the two-storey building and worked for nearly an hour to bring the blaze under control.
According to officials, the fire originated at the rear of the ground floor and quickly spread to the second floor, causing significant structural and smoke damage. The building was unoccupied at the time, and a community advisory warning was issued due to smoke in the surrounding area.
This incident marks the latest in a troubling pattern of suspicious fires targeting ice cream businesses in Williamstown over the past three years. On January 5, 2024, Capriccio Gelateria—located next door to the shop affected this morning—was similarly targeted.
The nearby Williamstown Ice Cream and Frozen Yogurt has also been subjected to multiple attacks, including two incidents within a 24-hour period in November 2023.
Police have launched an investigation into the latest blaze and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
