Since selling his first scoop in 2009, Chad Draizin’s Fifty Licks has grown from pop-ups to beloved brick-and-mortar shops across Portland. The 2017 opening of his bustling Burnside & 28th location marked a turning point, attracting crowds from nearby restaurants and a movie theater.
However, a catastrophic fire in May 2024 severely damaged that flagship spot inside a historic building, threatening the business’s momentum. Over the past year, Draizin has worked tirelessly to keep other locations open and launched a pop-up at Washington Square Mall to stay connected with fans.
He now shares his journey of resilience and his hopes to return to the cherished Burnside corner, aiming to rebuild what was lost and keep Portland’s ice cream culture thriving.
