New Dessert Café “Scoop and Waffle” Brings Fun and Flavor to Sidney

by Alice

A new dessert destination has opened its doors on the Saanich Peninsula, quickly becoming a favorite among locals and visitors alike. Scoop and Waffle, located on Beacon Avenue in downtown Sidney, has already made a splash in its first week of operation, offering a playful array of treats and an atmosphere that brings out the kid in everyone.

Founded by Amanda Coe, the café brings together two beloved comfort foods: ice cream and waffles. Coe, who has been nurturing the idea for years, saw the perfect opportunity when a storefront became available in the heart of the town.

“We wanted to bring a fun food concept to Sidney,” Coe said. “Our signature is serving fun food.”

True to its name, the menu is packed with a variety of indulgent options. Customers can choose from 28 rotating ice cream flavors, mini donuts, custom cakes, and waffle pops—mini Belgian waffles served on a stick. Other offerings include milkshakes, sundaes, and warm Belgian waffles piled high with a range of toppings.

The showstopper? The Scoop and Waffle Sundae, served in a waffle cone bowl and topped with two scoops of ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate sauce, sprinkles, and a cherry—plus the café’s signature “waffle coin.”

For those with dietary restrictions, Scoop and Waffle offers vegan sorbets, gluten-free waffles, and gluten-friendly cones, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

The shop is not resting on its laurels. Coe and her team plan to keep the excitement going with monthly flavor polls on Facebook, seasonal menu additions, and even savory waffles for lunch this fall. In addition, a grand opening celebration is planned for mid-May, and partnerships with local attractions like the Sidney Museum and Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea will offer sweet treats to visitors after their excursions.

Designed to be bright, welcoming, and fun, the café features playful decor, including ice cream-shaped lollipops and an upcoming claw machine. It’s a space that invites guests of all ages to enjoy the simple pleasures of life, whether as a child or simply at heart.

“We’ve only been open for a week, but the community’s response has been amazing,” Coe shared. “We’ve been busier than expected, and it’s been such a fun start.”

Her personal favorite? A gluten-free Belgian waffle topped with two scoops of chocolate peanut butter, Nutella drizzle, and whipped cream—a combination she describes as “yum.”

If Scoop and Waffle were a flavor? Coe sums it up best: “Fun and sweet.”

And as for who she’d most like to serve ice cream to? Coe would love to offer a scoop of ube ice cream to comedian Mike Myers, just to see his reaction. “It’s actually very tasty,” she says with a grin.

Located at 2423 Beacon Avenue, Unit 106, Scoop and Waffle is open year-round, offering both indoor seating and seasonal outdoor seating. Stay connected through Facebook and Instagram for updates on new flavors and their upcoming grand opening celebration.

After all, as Coe puts it, “If there’s one thing better than ice cream—it’s ice cream with waffles.”
