Penn State Altoona is set to bring a cool twist to the summer with its Sunday Arts Ice Cream Social, a community-focused performing arts series held at the Misciagna Center for Performing Arts. These free, cabaret-style events will take place at 5 p.m. on Sundays — July 13, July 27, and August 3 — in the Titelman Study, and are made possible through the support of the Kjell Meling Arts for All Initiative.
Open to the public, the series invites regional artists aged 18 and over to apply for a chance to perform. Vocalists and instrumentalists should prepare approximately 20 minutes of material and bring their own instruments or accompanists, except for piano, which will be provided. All musical genres are welcome.
Playwrights are also encouraged to participate. Applicants must submit a 5–10 page excerpt of their script for consideration and are allowed up to one hour of reading time during the performance. However, actors and readers must be arranged by the playwright, as they are not provided by the event.
The Sunday Arts Ice Cream Social celebrates creativity and community — and yes, attendees can enjoy ice cream while experiencing live performances. Events like these not only showcase local talent but also reflect growing interest in integrating the arts into relaxed, family-friendly experiences, echoing trends in experiential events and even ice cream franchise opportunities that blend entertainment with treats.
