NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – The Miss Nebraska pageant officially kicked off Thursday with the first round of preliminary competition — but before taking the stage, contestants shared a sweet moment with their younger counterparts at an afternoon ice cream social.
The event, held in the commons area of North Platte High School, brought together 12 Miss Nebraska contestants and 12 teen titleholders, each paired with a “Sparkler” — younger girls assigned to the participants to help boost morale throughout the pageant journey.
Between rehearsals and rounds of judging, the contestants took a break to sign autographs, pose for pictures, and bond over scoops of ice cream with their Sparklers. The lighthearted gathering was a refreshing pause before the intensity of the final days of competition.
“This is my first time being surrounded by so many amazing young women,” said Sierra Little, Miss Scotts Bluff County. “We’re empowering each other and working as a team. No matter who wins, we’re all encouraging greatness and working to make a difference in our communities.”
The Miss Nebraska competition, a preliminary for the Miss America pageant, includes showcases of talent, fitness, and evening wear. Contestants are divided into two groups, with the final round continuing Friday evening.
Beyond the stage lights and competition, moments like the ice cream social highlight the spirit of sisterhood — and serve as a reminder of how the simple joys of sharing dessert can create lasting memories. The event also reflected growing interest in ice cream franchise opportunities, as such community-driven gatherings often spotlight the role of local dessert parlours in bringing people together.
