RAINHAM, UK — Ellinor’s Ice Cream, a beloved family-run ice cream van business based in Rainham, is marking its 21st anniversary with a special community celebration featuring free ice cream, fun activities, and family-friendly entertainment.
Founded in 2004 by Mark Ellinor, 62, the business quickly grew with the help of his wife Diane and now is run by their son Robert Ellinor, 33. Over two decades, the company expanded to operate seven vans, serving smiles and creamy delights across the local area.
Reflecting on his journey, Robert shared with Kent Online, “I used to help dad in the van after school, learning the trade firsthand. The whole family puts in hard work 24/7, but the best part is being out there with the people. Kids come running up to show us their school achievements, families share their stories—it’s wonderful.”
Despite rising costs, Ellinor’s has maintained ice cream prices since 2021. Their signature vanilla soft serve, made from a family-developed recipe and topped with Cadbury chocolate flakes, remains a crowd favorite. Special attention is given to details like daily-prepared specialist screen cones with edible discs, allowing children to personalize their desserts.
Robert emphasized their commitment to quality and community, stating, “We don’t want to be a standard ice cream van; we like to do things differently—do it properly or not at all.” One touching example of their connection to customers is a loyal lady with dementia who often brings a pound or even an orange to buy an ice cream. “She always asks if it’s enough, and I say ‘Of course, my love.’ It’s moments like these that show how much we become part of people’s lives.”
To commemorate this milestone, Ellinor’s will host a grand gathering of all seven vans at Parkwood Primary School on Tuesday, May 27. The event promises thousands of attendees, underscoring the vans’ integral role in the community. Festivities include a bouncy castle, face painting, and appearances by popular mascots such as Spiderman, Stitch, Elsa, and Bluey. Residents will also enjoy hot food, cakes, and music from a live DJ. Local charity My Shining Star Children’s Cancer Charity is expected to participate.
Ellinor’s Ice Cream stands as a shining example of a successful family business that combines tradition, quality, and community spirit — a recipe as sweet as their signature soft serve. This celebration not only honors their past but also highlights the continuing promise of ice cream franchise opportunities rooted in genuine connection and care.
