BURBANK, CA — Southern California’s dessert scene is getting sweeter as Handel’s Ice Cream opens a new location in Burbank, marking the brand’s 80th anniversary. The grand opening is set for Thursday, May 15, with the first 50 guests receiving free ice cream for a year.*
The Burbank store is led by husband-and-wife team Phil and Molly Kaye, who previously opened a successful Handel’s location in Los Feliz, just a short walk from their home. Phil, a professional writer and founder of youth poetry nonprofit Project VOICE, and Molly, a marriage and family therapist, bring their passion for community and family to the new venture.
“We loved our first store so much that we wanted to open another,” said Phil Kaye, co-owner of Handel’s Ice Cream in Burbank. “Our team is as enthusiastic as we are about making ice cream and connecting with customers—bringing a little joy and comfort no matter what life throws at them.”
The Burbank location will serve classic flavors such as Black Cherry, Butter Pecan, Rocky Mocha Blast, and Blue Monster, alongside seasonal varieties. Each Handel’s shop offers 48 rotating flavors, made fresh daily on-site.
Community engagement remains central to Handel’s mission. The new Burbank store will host spirit nights, ice cream socials, and fundraising events to support local causes.
“Both Phil and I have deep roots in community work—Phil through poetry advocacy and I through special education—and we’re excited to bring that spirit to Burbank,” said Molly Kaye, co-owner. “We look forward to partnering with schools and organizations to raise funds and spread happiness, all with the help of ice cream.”
