Youngstown, OH – Handel’s Ice Cream, an iconic brand with 80 years of scooping tradition, is ushering in summer with a nostalgic new limited-edition flavor: Frosted Animal Cookie. Available starting June 3 at participating locations while supplies last, this playful treat combines a cake-flavored ice cream base with a vanilla frosting ripple and chunks of frosted animal cookies, evoking cherished childhood memories.
“Frosted Animal Cookie brings a beloved childhood snack to life in a way that’s both fun and nostalgic,” said Hillary Frei, Chief Marketing Officer of Handel’s Ice Cream. “As we celebrate eight decades of delighting customers, this flavor perfectly captures the joy of summer and the kid in all of us.”
The inspiration for Frosted Animal Cookie came from franchisee Joseph Ogden, who owns Handel’s shops in Thousand Oaks and Oxnard, California. Ogden, influenced by family success with Handel’s locations in Utah and his own training in Ohio, dreamed up the concept inspired by zoo visits and the frosted cookies his grandmother shared with him as a child.
“I wanted to create a flavor that tastes like a bite of childhood,” Ogden said. “It’s colorful, fun, and packed with nostalgic flavor — a perfect tribute to my grandma and our 80th anniversary celebration.”
Handel’s continues to spotlight franchisee-inspired creations, following popular 2025 flavors like Sticky Fingers and Raspberry Dream Cream. The new Frosted Animal Cookie ice cream can be enjoyed in cones, dishes, shakes, or purchased by the pint at select stores.
“Our franchisees’ passion and creativity shine through in these unique flavors that fans nationwide love,” added Frei.
Founded in 1945 in Youngstown, Ohio, Handel’s Ice Cream has grown from a single scoop shop into a flourishing chain with over 150 locations across 15 states. Known for making ice cream one batch at a time by hand, Handel’s offers 48 flavors daily and over 140 seasonal varieties.
