CHILTON, Wis. (WBAY) — As part of June Dairy Month celebrations, Governor Tony Evers visited Scoops Ice Cream House in Chilton on Monday to highlight the positive impact of Wisconsin’s dairy processor grants on small businesses.
Governor Evers toured the locally owned shop to learn how a 2023 grant from the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection has supported Scoops’ expansion efforts. The grant program aims to help dairy processors modernize facilities, grow operations, and improve workforce conditions.
“We feel incredibly honored and privileged that he is willing to come out to our small little operation to see the impact that a grant makes,” said Scoops owner Marko Sosa.
Sosa, who sells his handcrafted ice cream to various shops across the state, applied for the grant when he was seeking to scale up operations. The funding enabled him to hire an assistant production manager, a key addition that increased production output and positioned the business for further wholesale opportunities.
“Dairy is a multi-billion dollar industry in Wisconsin,” said Governor Evers during the visit. “We’re proud to support the people who keep it running—from farmers to processors—and ice cream is one of the best things that comes from it.”
Sosa emphasized that the grant process was accessible and encouraged other small dairy entrepreneurs to take advantage of similar yogurt and ice cream franchise opportunities. “It’s an easy way to get the support you need and give back to the local economy,” he noted.
With plans underway to pursue additional funding, Scoops is eyeing further expansion, reflecting growing interest in the latest ice cream franchise developments across Wisconsin.
