Van Leeuwen and Ollie Launch Dog-Friendly Ice Cream

by Alice

Brooklyn’s Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, renowned for its artisanal dairy and vegan ice creams, has collaborated with Ollie, a provider of fresh, human-grade dog food, to launch its first-ever ice cream for dogs.

The new treat, available starting May 21, can be found at Van Leeuwen scoop shops nationwide, most Petco locations, and online at petco.com. Additionally, Ollie subscribers can add this indulgence to their orders, with a special promotion from June 3-13 offering a free pint to new subscribers.

This partnership highlights the shared mission of Ollie and Van Leeuwen to offer high-quality, delicious products made with premium ingredients. Nicole Sumner, brand director at Ollie, emphasized that dog owners can confidently share this summer treat with their pets, knowing it meets both brands’ rigorous standards.

“This collaboration combines the expertise of Ollie’s dog nutritionists with Van Leeuwen’s ice cream craftsmanship,” said Sumner. “We’ve created a luxurious vegan ice cream using dog-safe ingredients, ensuring an indulgent yet healthy experience for dogs.”

Peanut Butter and Banana Recipe

The signature peanut butter and banana recipe, crafted by Van Leeuwen and Ollie, features a sweet and salty non-dairy ice cream with swirls of peanut butter. The base of oat milk and coconut cream avoids dairy, which can upset some dogs’ stomachs, while balancing sugar and protein levels for a health-conscious treat.

“Ice cream is a delightful indulgence, and we wanted to share that joy with our dogs,” Sumner explained. “Our taste testers—both human and dog—loved the result, and we believe others will too.”

To celebrate the launch, Van Leeuwen and Ollie are hosting ice cream truck events in New York City, Los Angeles, and San Diego. These events will offer free tastings of the new dog ice cream and complimentary scoops of Van Leeuwen favorites for humans.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Ollie to create a special treat for pups,” said Ben Van Leeuwen, co-founder and CEO of Van Leeuwen. “My dog Hachi and our office dogs tested it and couldn’t get enough.”

Nick Stafford, CEO of Ollie, reiterated the brand’s commitment to quality. “We want dogs to live long, healthy lives filled with joy and proper nutrition. This collaboration brings even more enjoyment to our beloved pets.”

When asked about future flavors, Sumner hinted, “If it sparks joy, it’s never out of the question. No official plans yet, but stay tuned!”
