Mangaluru – A concerning situation has unfolded in Adyar, located on the outskirts of Mangaluru, where multiple individuals have reportedly fallen ill after consuming tender coconut water from an ice cream unit.

Residents of Adyar, Kannur, and Thumbe purchased tender coconut water from the unit on April 8, only to experience symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea the following day. The affected individuals had consumed the tender coconut water, priced at Rs 40 per litre, raising concerns about its safety.

Despite receiving initial treatment from local physicians, three individuals required hospitalization at Highland Hospital, while an additional 12 sought medical attention at the outpatient unit of Father Muller Hospital in Thumbe.

Upon receiving a complaint via WhatsApp on Wednesday, district health officer Dr. Thimmayya and the food security officer swiftly intervened. They visited the factory, collected samples for testing, and subsequently shut down the entire facility for thorough cleaning. The samples are currently undergoing testing, and authorities await the results to determine the cause of the illness outbreak.

In addition to their investigative efforts, health officials have visited the hospitalized patients to assess their condition and provide necessary assistance.

The situation underscores the importance of stringent food safety measures to prevent such incidents and protect public health. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and will take appropriate action based on the test results and further investigations.
