NORTH OLMSTED, OH — St. Brendan School recently welcomed a distinguished guest for a day of faith, art, and frozen treats. Auxiliary Bishop Michael Woost visited the school on May 16 to participate in the annual Gallery Walk and to share a special moment with students during the “Ice Cream with the Bishop” event.
The Gallery Walk transformed the school’s hallways into a vibrant exhibit, showcasing artistic creations by students from Pre-K through eighth grade. The pieces, ranging from saint-themed stained-glass “windows” to a whimsical reinterpretation of the Sistine Chapel ceiling painted by kindergarteners and first graders, highlighted the school’s commitment to Catholic classical education and hands-on learning.
Bishop Woost took time to admire the student artwork and visit classrooms, including a junior high history lesson focused on St. Brendan, the school and parish’s patron saint. He was joined by his executive assistant Judy Liederbach, a St. Brendan alumna, and accompanied by Father Tom Woost, the school’s pastor and the bishop’s younger brother, along with Vincent DeLuca, head of school, and Principal Julie Onacila.
One of the day’s most anticipated moments was the “Ice Cream with the Bishop” fundraiser, a part of the school’s #WeGiveCatholic online giving campaign. After touring the student projects — including boats made from French fry containers, Marian shrines, and handmade banners — Bishop Woost, Father Woost, and Onacila helped students craft their own ice cream sundaes, closing out the event on a sweet note.
The school’s innovative and community-centered approach not only engaged students but also captured the essence of what makes Catholic education unique. Events like this echo the spirit of latest ice cream franchise trends, where ice cream serves as more than a treat — it becomes a centerpiece for community connection and celebration. As ice cream franchise opportunities grow, schools like St. Brendan remind us that sometimes, the best sundaes are served with a side of learning and love.
